SIM lock

The Blackberry Torch generally has in place what is called a network lock, or MEP2. This relates to the actual handset, and means that the handset can only be used with SIM cards from one particular network. Unlocking the Torch means that it can then be used with SIM cards from any network.

Before placing an order, you can check if your phone is network locked by inserting the SIM card of the desired network and seeing if it will connect to that network. Please note that if your Torch will not connect to any network at all, not even the one it is supposedly locked to, then it may have been blocked by the network or the police and you should contact us for advice.

Switching Networks

The Blackberry 9800 Torch is a 3G and Quad Band phone meaning it will work on absolutely any GSM network. However, that applies to phone calls and text messages. For Blackberry internet or data services, you should contact the network you want to use the phone with and see if they support Blackberry handsets, and whether they charge a surcharge for use of those additional services via their network.
