SIM lock

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 was announced in May 2011 as the first handset in the BlackBerry Bold series with a QWERTY keypad and a touch screen. Like other high end Blackberry handsets it typically comes network locked when purchased on a contract or pay as you go. That means that you can only use it on that one network until you "unlock" the phone or remove the network lock. SIM Locked is usually used to mean the same thing as Network Locked. This is however different to a handset lock whereby your Bold 9900 has a password that needs to be entered irrelevant of the SIM card, and a general block which stops your phone from being used at all if it is reported as lost or stolen.

Switching Networks

The Blackberry Bold 9900 is a 3G and Quad Band phone. It is the GSM counterpart of the Bold 9930 so once unlocked it can work on any GSM network anywhere in the world. Calls and text messages will work on all networks but Push Emails require a BlackBerry service from the network. Standard internet data may or may not require a special service depending on the network's own terms.
