    Turn on the HTC Evo 3D with a SIM card from a different carrier to the one the phone is locked to

    The phone will say Network Locked - slide down the Screen Locked bar as usual

SIM lock

The SIM Network lock on an HTC phone is what locks it for use on the network that subsidises it when it is first sold. Removing the SIM Network lock allows you to use the HTC Evo 3D on any carrier that can support the device. This is what we mean by unlocking the HTC Evo 3D, which can be done by simply entering the unlock code that we send you.

If you purchased the Evo 3D second hand you'll want to check it is not blocked because of being reported as lost or stolen. You can check this by inserting a SIM card from the locked network, which should always work. If only that SIM card works and no other, then it is network locked. A handset lock can be put in place by the owner of the phone, and is a PIN code that is specific to that phone and won't be known by anyone else.

Switching Networks

If you're considering unlocking the HTC Evo 3D, it's important to make sure that it is compatible with your new desired network. If it was locked to a GSM network then you'll have to make sure that it has its CDMA functions enabled if you want to use it on a CDMA network, and vice versa.
